Set Point Is On TV - PBS39 Special

PBS 39 came to a tennis training and exercise session that Set Point Tennis conducts four days a week at the Olivet Boys & Girls Club in Reading. PBS was creating a 1 hour "Obesity" special, and they had heard about the great things that Set Point Tennis is doing to combat obesity in Reading's youth. They filmed Set Point's president Mike Murphy leading a session and also filmed separate interviews with Mike, with Dylan Knouse, one of Set Point's youth mentors, and with Brooke Turner, the Executive Director of the ACE Program. PBS 39 also filmed Mike and Coronary Care Nurse Danielle Whelan speaking to the kids - she is one of the many community leaders that Mike invites to the sessions to teach the kids about careers, education and healthy choices.

Below is the full "Tempo In Depth program (it's almost 1 hour long) - but the portion of the program that is about Set Point Tennis starts at the 34:18 mark. Hint: once you start the video, click on the in the lower right corner and view the video in your full screen!

We Do More Than Just Teach Kids To Hit A Ball

We exist to do much more than just teach kids how to hit a ball. Peer mentors and respected community leaders, officials and dignitarites help the youth in our programs to develop their overall life-skills, set educational goals and identify career opportunities.

Speakers at recent SPTO events include State Senator Judy Schwank, Berks County District Attorney John Adams, plus Richard A. Ehst, President and COO of Customers Bank; Dr. Lex O. McMillan, President of Albright College; and Ellen Horan, President and CEO of the Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce. We have also had members of the Reading Police and Fire Departments speak at SPTO events, as well as attorneys and doctors and dentists.

Videos of presentations by several speakers are on the Speakers page of this website.
